“Must we always teach our children with books? Let them look at the stars and the mountains above. Let them look at the trees and flowers on earth. They will begin to think and to think is the beginning of a real education”
David Polis

The publication of “Miss Gallant's Favourite Season” is a
living legacy to an incredible woman. It was written and illustrated in
loving memory of Paula and is dedicated to her daughter Anna.
The story exemplifies everything Paula represented in her daily interactions
with students in her classroom. She taught with confidence, enthusiasm,
patience and love always creating a peaceful and supportive learning
environment. Brilliant colours filled the interior of Paula’s classroom,
this is perfectly illustrated by the books artist, Joan Power. By teaching
through art and sharing her favourite artists such as Maud Lewis, Van Gogh
or Monet, Paula and her students created vibrant art in their learning to
grasp the concepts in all subjects. Art provided an avenue for individual
expression, personal growth and a connection to feelings which Paula
believed was fundamental in a young person’s development. As Paula’s friend
so eloquently put it: “Paula made the leap from being a teacher of art to an
artist who teaches.”
